Michael Woods Announces Morgan County Commissioner 2026 Campaign

Morgan County Commissioner Michael D. Woods said he plans to run for election in 2026 for the position he was appointed to serve.
Woods originally ran for the seat in 2024 against Donny “Racer” Wood. When sitting board member Brad Zeller announced his retirement, the board appointed Woods as his replacement in September 2024, leaving the other candidate unopposed.

Woods, a Democrat who lives in Jacksonville with his husband and children, helped approve a home repair grant for low-income and disabled people. He also is hosting a series of blood drives starting this month to “pay it forward” as a survivor of esophageal cancer.
The board is made up of three members. Woods is up for election in November 2026. He currently runs unopposed.
Elections between commissioners are staggered, with the other two seats up again for election in 2028 and 2030.
